About Ale
Alejandra Villa (llorandoypintando) is an Oakland born and raised artist and illustrator. Their work explores life through themes of love, loss, grief, joy and resistance. Alejandra has been a creative since childhood, whose beginnings were alongside their grandmother's love for coloring. They have done a 360, returning to their childhood use of bold colors and comic-style of storytelling, which is what they’ve used to move through and process lived experiences.
Their practice is deeply introspective, using art as a tool for reflection and healing, creating in ways that always make biopic and queer people like them feel seen. Alejandra hopes that their vulnerability in the work is able to help its viewers feel seen in their life journey, a silent nod to our collective and personal moments. Influenced by artists like Faith Ringgold and Guadalupe Maravilla, who have inspired them to create stories that document personal experiences through time.
